SNP unveils plan to boost tourism
The SNP has highlighted ten pledges to boost Scotland's tourism industry, if the party is re-elected.
Some of the plans include developing sustainable, year-round tourism, using cultural and sporting events to promote Scotland as a tourist destination and using a network of food and drink ambassadors worldwide to promote the country's food industry.
Speaking during a visit to Aberdeenshire, SNP leader Alex Salmond said: "We are determined to maximise tourism growth and draw new visitors to Scotland.
"Tourism promotion will feature heavily in our 'all Scotland' approach to marketing Scotland abroad, bringing together important strands including culture, sport, outdoor activities and food and drink.
"A re-elected SNP government will continue to invest in developing our infrastructure - road, rail, air links and high-speed internet - which will not only benefit the people of Scotland but also make our country more accessible to visitors."
Mr Salmond said the party wants to build on the success of Homecoming 2009.
Other SNP tourism plans include continuing to fight for lower fuel prices through the introduction of a fuel price regulator and the development of new direct air routes to and from Scotland.
Improvements to Scotland's rail and road links, including the Borders Railway project and ongoing dualling of the A9, also feature in the party's manifesto.
