Crude oil tops $100

NEW YORK, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Light, sweet January crude oil climbed sharply on the New York Mercantile Exchange, topping $100 per barrel Tuesday.

Prices rose in advance of a meeting of oil ministers from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries in which production quotas among major oil exporters will be discussed.

In New York, West Texas Intermediate crude oil added $2.37 to $100.14 per barrel. Home heating oil added 3.27 cents to $2.9288 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline prices gained 6.18 cents to $2.6254 per gallon.

Henry Hub natural gas prices rose 2.5 cents to $3.279 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the national average price of unleaded gasoline dropped to $3.269 per gallon from Monday's $3.274, AAA said.
